How to Repair the Interphone in Breathedge 2
Repair the Breathedge 2 Interphone with both material packages, find the correct tools, and diagnose roof-battery or station-wiring progression problems.
On this page+
To repair the Breathedge 2 Interphone, finish the opening station and train sequence, inspect its panel, then complete the Electronics stage before gathering the separate wiring package: Metal x5, Wires x2, Aluminum x4, and Duct Tape x2. The game may refer to the object as an intercom in patch notes, but the key rule is the same: recheck the live panel after every submission instead of collecting from a single stale material list.
Reach the Interphone in the correct quest order
The Interphone is part of the Chapter 1 communication route, not an optional repair you can force at the start. Complete the suit and Chicken introduction, restore station power, raise the train pantograph, and inspect the train's damaged fixtures. When the main tracker advances to the communication objective, approach the Interphone and let its panel register the current step.
If the object has no active prompt, check the journal before hunting for components. A correct stack of materials cannot replace a missing prior interaction or a repair that is not yet active. The main quest walkthrough shows where the Interphone fits between the opening train repairs and the later antenna chain.
Keep the quest tracked while you work. An active objective gives the clearest signal that a submission completed and prevents you from confusing the Interphone with another nearby machine or later antenna requirement.
Complete the Electronics stage first
The first verified Interphone stage requires Electronics x5. Electronics can come from panels and recognizable devices such as floating televisions or washing machines, using Sui Hand or Scrap when the current interaction prompt allows it. Do not assume every appliance yields Electronics; get close enough to confirm the object label.
Five Electronics is a meaningful early reserve, so inspect the panel before leaving and return once the complete package is ready. Turning in a full set is safer than carrying a mixed inventory through a long oxygen route. If a different amount appears in your workstation or repair prompt, the live value wins over this guide.
Avoid spending the last Electronics on an optional craft while this task is active. The Interphone opens the next story route, so it has higher progression value than a convenience item that does not change your available objectives.
Gather the second-stage wiring package
After the Electronics submission, inspect the Interphone again. The next verified repair package is Metal x5, Wires x2, Aluminum x4, and Duct Tape x2. The separate stage is why an early guide can look incomplete even when its first table was correct.
Use Scrap on marked balls, barrels, containers, and salvage for Metal. Wires come from electrical panels with the Cutter, Aluminum comes from suitable cratered asteroid deposits with the Thumper, and Duct Tape is found on appropriate pipe or station-salvage objects with the Cutter. The Cutter guide explains how to tell a valid panel or pipe from unmarked scenery.
Plan this as one recipe package. Before flying out, empty enough inventory slots, repair the tools you need, and choose landmarks for both outbound and return travel. The resource index is useful when one component is missing, because it organizes the search by source object rather than a fragile exact coordinate.
Submit each repair and wait for the tracker
Return to the Interphone with the full displayed requirement, interact once, and wait for dialogue, animation, or the journal to update. Do not immediately leave because a changed objective can expose a different requirement, route, or direction. The tracker is the confirmation that the current stage actually completed.
If a component is not accepted, compare the material name and count on the live panel with the stack in your inventory. A similarly named item, a missing prior step, or a panel that has already advanced can create the impression that the repair is blocked. Changing one condition at a time makes the cause easier to identify.
After the Interphone route continues, do not confuse its later communication objectives with the small station-side antenna side quest. Follow the exact wording in the journal; Antenna Debris and story antenna materials are not interchangeable.
Handle a missing battery-on-the-roof stage
Hotfix 0.8.8 fixed a known case in which the quest did not advance after knocking the lock off the Interphone, so the stage about finding a battery on the roof was not given. This confirms a former progression issue; it does not mean every Interphone delay has the same cause or that you should invent a workaround on an older save.
First check your installed version, current objective text, and whether the preceding interaction registered. On 0.8.8 or later, preserve the save and capture the journal state if the named step is still absent. Avoid repeatedly reusing a tool on the lock or overwriting the only save that demonstrates the problem.
The Hotfix 0.8.8 guide separates this acknowledged issue from the loudspeaker, Zarya engine, Taxi pump, and other launch-week fixes. Use the official patch context to describe what changed, not as proof that every communication problem is already solved.
Check a station wire-plugging stall after 0.8.11
Patch 0.8.11 fixes a station quest involving plugging in wires. If your current task names a connection rather than a material submission, update, return to that connection, and wait for the journal to acknowledge it. If it still asks for the Interphone repair package, use the material panel and finish that stage first.
The official note does not identify the wire interaction as this Interphone's second repair stage. The 0.8.11 problem checklist provides the patch context; keep the existing staged material requirements separate from that correction.
Avoid material and navigation mistakes
The Interphone competes with train fixtures, tools, and antennas for Aluminum, Wires, Plastic, and Electronics. Inspect the active repair before spending shared components, then reserve the next full requirement at the train. This avoids a common opening stall: crafting an optional item and discovering that the communication route now lacks a small but scarce part.
Do not collect every material at once. A targeted Wires route with the Cutter, followed by a separate Aluminum route with the Thumper, is easier to navigate and leaves room for the components you actually need. Return as soon as one package is complete instead of risking an oxygen warning to fill storage.
If the route seems stuck after a successful repair, reopen the journal and use the next verb, destination, or marker as your guide. The Interphone is a handoff into later story progression, not a reason to search the starting station for every antenna or optional activity.
Verification and version note
The station-wire fix was reviewed against the official 0.8.11 announcement on October 2, 2026. Gameplay verification remains 0.8.2; this later review adds a diagnostic check without replacing the original material baseline.
The Interphone's staged material requirements and Chapter 1 placement on this page were checked against the initial public Early Access build, 0.8.2, on September 1, 2026. The named missing-roof-battery progression fix was cross-checked against the official Hotfix 0.8.8 announcement published September 9, 2026.
Later patches can alter a prompt, objective sequence, or cost without invalidating the historical patch note. Trust the current repair panel and journal when they conflict with a route verified on an earlier build. Record the installed version and exact interaction if you report a new stall.
