Breathedge 2 Hotfix 0.8.8 changes two tool rules that can stop progress: the PornHubble grate now needs the Cutter, while the coffinbot train door and drillers’ round door need the screwdriver. The September 9 update also fixes several launch-week quest stalls around the loudspeaker, Zarya engines, Taxi pump, intercom, larvae sequence, and station chief. Check the live journal and object prompt before repeating an old route, because a guide written for the crowbar rule can now send you to the right place with the wrong tool.

Check the tool prompt before spending durability

The clearest rule change is inside PornHubble. The official note says its grate is no longer a crowbar target: equip the Cutter and wait for the matching prompt before using it. If the grate still does not react, first confirm that the Debug PornHubble objective is active; a correct tool cannot replace a missing quest stage.

Two door interactions changed separately. The train door associated with the coffinbot and the drillers’ circular door now require the screwdriver, not the crowbar. This is not the same rule as Hotfix 0.8.7, which changed selected dismantling interactions to the Twister; use the icon on the object rather than combining the two patch notes into one imagined tool rule.

Bring only the relevant tool to the object, then inspect it at close range. A scenery piece, inactive quest prop, or door with another prerequisite will not become valid merely because you equip the newest tool. The crafting guide and recipe list help you prepare a replacement, but the prompt in your save decides the action.

Retry a loudspeaker or intercom stall safely

Hotfix 0.8.8 fixes a state that could leave the character stuck while installing the loudspeaker on the station roof. It also fixes an intercom progression case in which breaking the lock did not provide the later roof-battery objective. Those are distinct problems: do not search for a battery before the journal gives that phase.

After updating, load from a safe point, pin the current objective, and approach the exact interaction once. Let the animation, dialogue, and objective text finish before leaving the roof or reopening the journal. If the task advances, continue normally; repeatedly interacting during a transition can make it harder to identify what happened.

If the objective remains unchanged, record the installed version, the full journal wording, and the object you used. Preserve the save that shows the issue instead of overwriting it while trying unrelated tools. The patch-note tracker distinguishes an official fix from a route that has been personally retested on a later build.

Recheck Zarya, the larvae sequence, and Taxi pump

The update addresses a Zarya-engine failure where the starter handle still behaved as though ice remained after the ice had been removed. It also fixes a progression loss that could occur after killing the five larvae from the WTF, then saving and leaving to the menu before loading again. These notes describe named failures, not alternate solutions for every unresponsive engine or enemy encounter.

For Zarya, verify that the ice-removal step and the starter-handle step are both the active journal sequence. For the larvae event, avoid treating an old interrupted save as proof that the new version failed; reload it once, check the objective, and preserve evidence if the counter or stage does not continue. The current prompt and tracked objective are stronger evidence than a remembered video sequence.

The Taxi-complex pump also received a fix after ice removal sometimes failed to start it. Knock off only the ice identified by the interaction, wait for the game to acknowledge the action, and then check the pump’s task state. Taxi letters remain a separate issue covered by the Alphabet guide, so do not mix a pump objective with the collectible search around the sign.

Handle the station chief issue without risking a save

One 0.8.8 correction covers a save made during the station chief’s explosion before the head appeared. In that situation, the head might never show up after loading. The following 0.8.9 update also fixes a missing marker on the chief’s head after the body explodes, so players encountering this route should check the Hotfix 0.8.9 guide as well.

If you arrive at that scene with a valuable save, let the event complete and verify that the item or marker appears before replacing the only working save. This is a precaution for the specific reported state, not a warning that all saves near the station chief are unsafe. Keep a screenshot of the journal and scene if the object remains absent on the current version.

Do not use console commands, save-file edits, or an unofficial workaround to force the next state. A preserved save, exact version, and short reproduction sequence give the developer useful evidence and avoid converting a recoverable bug into a damaged playthrough.

What this hotfix does not prove

The official note fixes named interactions and progression cases. It does not announce a new Chapter 1 area, change every crafting cost, or confirm a universal workaround for all stuck quests. A player can still be blocked by an inactive objective, a missed prerequisite, or a tool prompt that belongs to a different object.

Use the main quest walkthrough to identify the larger story stage, then return to the journal before acting on a patch-specific tip. For the DEPOT heating chain, the Service Warmers guide remains the focused route; this page only explains why an old interaction may now behave differently. Keeping those intents separate makes both pages easier to trust.

Source and review note

The factual change list comes from the official Hotfix 0.8.8 Steam announcement, published September 9, 2026. It is the source for the Cutter and screwdriver requirements and the named quest, save, engine, pump, and station-chief fixes. This guide adds original recovery steps and does not claim that every issue was reproduced in every save.

This page documents the official 0.8.8 release. A later patch can fix another condition without changing the facts recorded here, so compare your installed version with the update tracker before relying on an exact interaction. When the live prompt and this guide disagree, follow the game and report the difference with evidence.
