Breathedge 2 Hotfix 0.8.9 improves Steam Deck optimization, corrects encyclopedia text and links, fixes a dummy-in-locker count, and restores a missing marker on the station chief’s head. It was announced on September 13, 2026 and remains the historical source for those fixes. For later quest and UI changes, check the 0.8.10 patch guide before retrying the affected interaction.
Know what changed in 0.8.9
The patch replaces the English suit voiceover with a newly recorded performance and corrects errors in encyclopedia text. These are presentation and reference changes, not evidence that Chapter 1 objectives, map routes, or item recipes have been redesigned. If an encyclopedia entry now uses different wording, match your active journal objective instead of assuming the route changed.
The developer also fixed encyclopedia hyperlinks. A working game-menu link is useful, but it does not make a community guide authoritative. Compare a linked entry with your present objective and interactable prompt, especially when an older video uses a different name for the same object.
Two gameplay corrections are named as well. Putting the dummy in the locker should now count correctly, and the station chief’s head should receive its marker after the body explodes. The patch does not say that every locker item or every missing marker has the same cause, so keep the fix limited to the situations the developer actually identified.
Test a stalled dummy objective once
If the dummy-in-locker task did not count before the update, load the affected save after confirming the game is on 0.8.9. Pin the objective, put the dummy in the specified locker, and wait for the objective text or counter to change before removing it. One clean attempt produces better evidence than moving the item repeatedly between containers.
When the task completes, continue from the journal rather than repeating the interaction to make certain. If it does not, capture the objective wording, locker, inventory state, and version number. Those details show whether the problem matches the official fix or whether a separate prerequisite is missing.
Do not discard the dummy, overwrite the only affected save, or turn an unconfirmed failure into a universal workaround. The updates and guide-accuracy page explains how to report a mismatch without treating one save as proof that every player has the same bug.
Revisit the station chief marker carefully
The station-chief correction follows a related 0.8.8 save-state fix. Hotfix 0.8.8 addresses a head that could fail to appear after saving during the explosion; 0.8.9 addresses the marker not appearing on the head after the body explodes. These are close enough to confuse, but they are not interchangeable.
Let the scene finish, then look for the expected marker before leaving the area or replacing a useful save. If the head is absent entirely, consult the 0.8.8 guide first; if the head is present but unmarked, document that distinction for the 0.8.9 issue. It prevents a future report from merging two different states into one vague “chief bug.”
If neither the object nor the marker appears after updating, preserve the affected save and use the developer’s official support route. A fan wiki can explain the reported conditions, but it cannot safely reconstruct a quest state or repair a save file.
Treat Steam Deck optimization as a reason to retest
The announcement says optimization for Steam Deck was improved. It does not publish a frame-rate target, a battery-life result, controller mapping guarantees, or a universal compatibility verdict. Do not turn that single sentence into a claim that every Deck configuration now performs the same way.
Test your own installation in a low-risk location after the update. Note the game version, Deck power profile, screen mode, frame-rate cap, and the place in the game where you checked performance. A short comparison is more useful than an isolated frame-rate number taken during a cutscene or a loading transition.
For current status and cautious setup advice, see the Steam Deck guide. Update that page only after a reproducible current-build check; this patch note establishes that an optimization change was announced, not that every performance conclusion has been personally retested.
Use encyclopedia fixes without spreading old errors
Corrected encyclopedia text can resolve a misleading item name or description, but it does not prove a third-party material list was accurate. When the encyclopedia, crafting panel, and a guide disagree, use the game’s live repair panel or object prompt for the immediate action. Record the discrepancy before changing a scarce-material route.
Likewise, an encyclopedia hyperlink can point to helpful context while your quest remains gated by its current state. Follow the journal’s exact verb and target first, then use the linked article to understand the system. This is particularly useful in Early Access, where terminology can be adjusted without changing the objective sequence.
The resource locations guide and crafting recipes remain reference pages, not replacements for a live requirement. If a current panel shows a different material or tool, trust the panel and report the difference with the version and object name.
Keep patch status separate from route verification
This wiki treats an official patch announcement and a hands-on route check as different evidence. This page records what 0.8.9 changed even after a later patch arrives; an older walkthrough may still show an earlier verified build. That distinction prevents a date change from pretending every old screenshot, item count, and objective was replayed.
Before a difficult route, compare the page’s build label, the date of the relevant hotfix, and the in-game journal. Prioritize a retest when a patch names the same tool, marker, save condition, or device that the guide describes. Broad landmark advice can remain useful, but exact inputs deserve a fresh prompt check.
Source and review note
The factual list on this page comes from the official Hotfix 0.8.9 Steam announcement, published September 13, 2026. The announcement supports the voiceover, encyclopedia, Steam Deck, dummy, and station-chief statements above. It does not support unmeasured performance claims or broad conclusions about unrelated quest failures.
This page was reviewed against that official announcement on the release date. It should be read alongside the patch-note tracker, which records the newest official status, and historical hotfix pages, which preserve earlier conditions rather than rewriting them out of the record.
