12 Things to Do First in Breathedge 2
Do these Breathedge 2 tasks first: equip your suit, restore station power, repair the train, craft key tools, secure oxygen, and collect nearby rewards.

The first things to do in Breathedge 2 are equip the suit and helmet, feed the Chicken, craft Scrap, restore station power, repair the train, and build the Cutter and Thumper. After that, complete the nearby antenna and Attendant side quests before pushing deeper into open space. This order gives you the core tools, safe services, material knowledge, and a permanent protection bonus with minimal backtracking.
1. Equip the suit and helmet
Collect the spacesuit and helmet from the benches in the opening area before attempting to explore. The tutorial expects both pieces and will not treat the survival loop as properly started until they are equipped. Check the equipment screen rather than relying only on the pickup animation.
Use this quiet moment to learn the inventory, quick slots, and interaction prompts. Put tools in consistent slots so switching under an oxygen warning does not become a memory test. A predictable loadout saves more time than carrying every item you find.
2. Feed the Chicken and help Babe
Pick up the chicken feed behind the nearby pieces, equip it, and use it on the Chicken. Then enter the docked train, pick up Sui, and approach Babe in the right corner. These small actions advance the introduction and unlock the practical station objectives.
Do not rush past dialogue while the objective tracker is updating. The game's jokes may continue after the required interaction, but the tracker will state whether the next trigger has appeared. If nothing advances, repeat the last physical interaction rather than flying away.
3. Gather two Metal and craft Scrap
Open the two containers behind the train-station platform and collect enough Metal to craft Scrap for Metal x2. Equip the tool immediately because the next locks and frozen objects require it. Scrap is expendable, so keep additional Metal instead of turning all of it into unrelated crafts.
Use Scrap deliberately on objective objects and resource nodes you actually need. Tool durability converts materials into access, which means random smashing has a real opportunity cost. Later storage makes systematic harvesting much easier.
4. Open the phone booth
Take Scrap to the phone booth and break its lock to continue the sequence. Aim at the lock and watch for the interaction or hit response; striking the booth frame may appear to do nothing. If necessary, reposition slightly until the lock itself highlights.
This is an early lesson in Breathedge 2's object targeting. Many wrecks contain several visual parts, but only one is harvestable or repairable. Follow the highlight and tool icon rather than the largest piece of geometry.
5. Restore the generator
Climb to the generator on the platform and look directly behind it for the battery frozen in ice. Break the ice with Scrap, retrieve the battery, and insert it into the generator. The short distance makes this a safe first external objective.
Power changes the state of nearby machinery and optional interactions. If the Attendant or another device cannot be used, finish this step and revisit it. This avoids wasting oxygen on a quest that is temporarily gated.
6. Raise the train pantograph
Move onto the train roof beneath the glass awning and raise the pantograph. This connects the train after the generator is running and advances the repair sequence. Use the roofline and awning as the landmark if the objective marker is hard to read.
Return inside after the connection completes and inspect every damaged fixture. Inspection exposes recipe requirements and turns a vague repair problem into a clear gathering list. Write down or use the recipe page instead of repeatedly opening each station component.
7. Repair the four train fixtures
Repair Kettle Bobby, the Nutri-Pack-O-Mat, the lamp, and the window. Together they require combinations of Aluminum, Wires, Electronics, Plastic, Metal, Glass, and either Cardboard or Foam. Work on one fixture at a time so shared resources are not accidentally spent before the most useful system is ready.
The food and drink machines stabilize longer sessions, while the lamp and window complete the required restoration. Materials around platforms, pipes, panels, and wrecks are enough to teach the collection loop. Return frequently instead of extending a trip because only one component remains.
8. Learn the oxygen turnaround point
Turn back when roughly half your oxygen remains on an unfamiliar route. A known, direct path may justify a smaller reserve, but the opening area contains clutter that can hide the train from the return angle. Reaching safety with spare oxygen is success, not wasted capacity.
Look behind you several times during each outbound trip. Memorize the silhouette of the station, the train, colored machinery, and nearby ice formations. This simple habit prevents more deaths than carrying one extra consumable.
9. Craft the Cutter
Save Aluminum x4, Plastic x2, and Metal x4 for the Cutter. It opens resource sources that Scrap cannot process, including many pipes and electrical panels. The Cutter therefore improves every later gathering route rather than solving only one objective.
Carry both tools until you know which objects use each one. When an object displays the wrong tool symbol, do not spend time striking it with Scrap. Return after crafting the requested tool and harvest it efficiently.
10. Craft the Thumper
The Thumper costs Metal x4 and Plastic x2 and helps extract Aluminum from suitable asteroid deposits. Aluminum is consumed by early repairs and multiple tools, so reliable access prevents a common progression stall. Mark or remember productive cratered rocks close to your normal routes.
Do not confuse every gray rock with an Aluminum source. Search for the characteristic deposits and interaction prompt. The Aluminum guide describes the visual cues and a safer harvesting routine.
11. Finish the nearby side quests
Repair the broken antenna using two nearby debris pieces, then assemble the Attendant from its body, head, and arm. Both searches stay close to the starting station and make you examine useful landmarks. The Attendant reward adds Physical Protection +2, making later mistakes less punishing.
These quests are also good tests of object scale. The arm is small and can blend into the edge of the metal bridge beside blue machinery and three orange balls. Search slowly with a stable oxygen reserve instead of sweeping past the spot at full speed.
12. Choose one next objective
After the opening repairs, choose either the main antenna route, resource expansion, or achievement cleanup rather than pursuing all three at once. Pack only the tools and materials that support that goal. A focused trip produces progress even if you return before reaching the farthest visible structure.
Use the main quest guide for story order, the resource hub for a missing component, and the achievement list for optional challenges. This page was checked on September 1, 2026; Early Access patches may change recipe costs, object positions, or objective wording.
