Recognize Plastic sources

Inspect pipe clusters, broken tubing, and station structures at close range. A harvestable section will show a resource or tool interaction, while decorative pipes remain inert. Approach from more than one angle because neighboring geometry can hide the active segment.

Plastic sources are easier to locate when you search by structure type rather than free-floating color. Follow platforms and machinery, scanning exposed joints and damaged ends. The interaction prompt is the final confirmation in every case.

Search the starting station first

The train platform and nearby station equipment provide a safe learning route with a clear return landmark. Complete one loop around the platform, then inspect connected pipes and small adjacent structures. Return before widening the route if oxygen or inventory becomes uncomfortable.

This local search supports the first train repairs without forcing a story expedition. It also familiarizes you with the bridge, blue machinery, broken antenna, and other landmarks used by side quests. Combine the trip with a single targeted objective rather than collecting randomly.

Essential Plastic recipes

Kettle Bobby and the Nutri-Pack-O-Mat each need Plastic x1, and the lamp uses another x1. The Cutter needs Plastic x2, while the Thumper also needs x2. A story antenna can require Plastic x2 along with Aluminum and Duct Tape.

Later verified recipes include Plastic x2 for the Flashlight and Backpack, plus other equipment and upgrade costs. Because demand repeats in small amounts, a modest stored stack prevents frequent interruptions. Use the recipe guide to check the active total before leaving.

Spend Plastic in the right order

Complete required train repairs and progression tools before comfort equipment. The Cutter expands access to panel and pipe resources, while the Thumper provides Aluminum needed for further crafting. Those tools repay their Plastic cost by opening more supply sources.

Keep two pieces in reserve when approaching a new story repair if storage allows. Do not build an item solely because its recipe is available. Match every early craft to the objective it unlocks or the survival problem it solves.

Fix a pipe that will not harvest

Move the reticle across joints, damaged ends, and highlighted sections rather than hitting the largest pipe. Confirm the displayed tool and equip a working version. If no prompt appears from any angle, the pipe is likely scenery and you should continue to the next structure.

Check tool durability before blaming the object. An exhausted Scrap or Cutter may vanish or fail at the moment you reach the source. Store replacement materials at the train and repair the route before repeating it.

Build a repeatable Plastic route

If a familiar pipe no longer yields Plastic, check whether the node has already been consumed, the tool changed, or a patch altered placement. Search the same structure from the opposite side before abandoning the landmark. Record productive sections by their relationship to the train, bridge, or colored machinery.

Store the recovered Plastic and reserve four early pieces for Cutter and Thumper if those tools are unfinished. Train fixtures and story antennas create additional demand immediately afterward. A small protected reserve prevents the next objective from sending you back over the same route.

Combine Plastic with nearby objectives

Harvest pipe sections that lie directly along the broken-antenna, Attendant, or station-repair routes. Do not leave the landmark chain for a single distant pipe unless Plastic is the trip's primary target. This keeps secondary collection from consuming the oxygen reserved for a quest part.

After the local route becomes familiar, map two or three reliable pipe segments into a dedicated circuit. Compare the circuit's yield with tool durability and travel cost. A compact route with predictable sources is better than a larger sweep filled with decorative, noninteractive tubing.
